Are JobMath estimates exact?

No. They are planning estimates based on the numbers entered and the assumptions shown. Field dimensions, compaction, cutting patterns, product yield, and purchase increments can change the actual quantity.

What waste percentage should I use?

Simple rectangular work often needs less extra than complex layouts. Common starting points are 5% to 10% for straightforward work and 10% to 20% for irregular shapes or materials with significant cuts. Product instructions and experienced installers should take priority.

Why does the calculator round up?

Many products are sold only as whole bags, sheets, cartons, bundles, boards, or packages. A calculated requirement of 9.2 cartons means that 10 cartons are needed to meet or exceed the calculated coverage.

How do I measure an irregular area?

Divide it into smaller rectangles, triangles, or circles, calculate each part, and add them. For tapered paths, multiplying length by average width provides a useful approximation.

Should I subtract doors and windows?

For paint, large openings can usually be subtracted. For drywall, small openings may not reduce sheet count because cut pieces are not always reusable. For insulation, use net cavity area and keep different wall assemblies separate.

What is the difference between cubic feet and cubic yards?

A cubic yard contains 27 cubic feet. Bagged landscape products are often labeled in cubic feet, while bulk mulch, soil, concrete, and aggregate are commonly ordered by cubic yard.

Can I use metric units?

Yes. Every calculator offers a metric input option. Product packaging may still use local purchase units, so confirm the unit printed by the supplier.

Does JobMath calculate project cost?

Not currently. Prices vary by location, product, tax, delivery, and quantity. Multiply the rounded purchase quantity by a current supplier price and add applicable delivery and tax.

Can I rely on this for structural design?

No. Framing and concrete volume tools estimate material quantities only. Structural sizes, reinforcement, spacing, footings, headers, and connections must follow approved plans and applicable code.
